Sarah Palin Shopping A Reality Show

March 4th, 2010 by marysimons

Sarah Palin seems to be liking the limelight a lot! Now that she’s s regular on Fox News, and doesn’t have the daily worries of being Governor of Alaska, she has time to do things like meet with network executives.

Apparently Sarah is shopping around a reality show! According to Entertainment Weekly, Palin has met with several network execs, including Mark Burnett! She’s trying to sell an idea for a a docudrama about Alaska. A source said it’s a “planet-Earth type look” at the state.

Insiders say she and Burnett were spotted together yesterday, and that she also met with Fox’s Mike Darnell, and then headed over to Idol with her family.

Must be nice! Sarah sure has changed a lot since when we first met her in ’08! Someone seems to be enjoying the cheap flights Brisbane to Blackwater Hollywood lifestyle a little better than freezing cold Alaska!

Daniels: ‘The Krankies are hysterical’

Rex Features

Paul Daniels has claimed that veteran comic Janette Krankie is currently “the funniest woman on stage”.The magician, 71, who is currently touring with Krankie on the ‘Best Of British Variety’ tour, said that his co-star is an underrated talent.”Janette gets quite a bit of flak, but she’s the funniest woman on stage at the moment,” he told the Midlands Sunday Mercury. “She’s hysterical, which is partly down to her timing and body language. She is so funny and she’ll have everyone laughing.”Christopher Biggins, Daniels’s wife Debbie McGee, Irish singer Dana, Syd Little and The Grumbleweeds are also on the jaunt, which is currently touring the UK.”It’ll be utter comedy mayhem as The Grumbleweeds are great too, as well as Syd,” said Daniels.”Of course I’ll be bringing comedy into my act as I always did at The Beeb, although they used to cut that bit out.”The show is like stepping back in time. Nowadays, artists don’t really have a laugh together backstage, but because we’re all older we’ll have such a good time. Showbusiness years ago cheap flights from Melbourne (All Airports) to Longreach was so much better as everyone knew one another.”

America’s Biggest Bedtime Story Returns With John Lithgow and BOOK IT!

America’s Biggest Bedtime Story Returns With John Lithgow and BOOK IT!

Calling all children, parents, and teachers - grab your books and PJs because the nation’s largest annual bedtime story event, America’s Biggest Bedtime Story, is back by popular demand for the third year. BOOK IT!®, the reading incentive program sponsored by Pizza Hut®, is teaming up with children’s author and award-winning actor John Lithgow to invite readers to participate in America’s Biggest Bedtime Story by logging on to www.bookitprogram.com on Feb. 18 starting at 9 a.m. CST.

For this year’s event, Lithgow will share his book, Carnival of the Animals, and if more readers participate in America’s Biggest Bedtime Story than in previous years, BOOK IT! will donate funds for 50,000 meals to Haiti Relief through the World Food Programme. The magic number was set last year when 197,972 participants watched Lithgow read his book, I Got Two Dogs.

“Our research shows that parents aren’t spending enough time reading to their kids at night,” said Leslie Brunt, program director of the BOOK IT! Program. “The goal of America’s Biggest Bedtime Story is to encourage more families to start a tradition of reading together for at least 20 minutes every night. This year we have a special challenge to readers - if 2010 is our largest event yet, the readers will help provide a donation for Haiti relief through the WFP.”

Carnival of the Animals (Simon & Schuster) illustrated by Boris Kulikov and inspired by Camille Saint-Saens’s composition, is the story of a young boy who falls asleep in a natural history museum on a school field trip, only to find his classmates, teachers, and family transformed into a menagerie of animals.

How to Participate

Readers can join in by logging on to www.bookitprogram.com on February 18 starting prison break dvd at 9 a.m. CST. The webcast will …continue reading

Please STOP doing that

Was it the midwinter blues that made us unleash our inner grouches? No, it was some cranky editor’s call for a laundry list of grievances, pet peeves, simmering grudges and mighty annoyances targeted at artists, presenters and, yes, audiences. Seen in a more positive light, if the worlds of arts and entertainment would hew to even half of these suggestions, what an improvement. Please use comments — below — to offer your own ideas, some of which we will publish in this section on a future Sunday.
Theater
Curtain up I don’t mind holding the curtain for five minutes, but any longer than that and you’re rewarding tardy slackers and penalizing people who showed up on time.(G.R.)
Captive audience Cut out extended pre-show funding appeals and coming-attraction promos. Unless said come-ons are very clever — or very brief — they are very irritating. (K.T.)
Play without end Curtail the 2 1/2- to 3-hour productions unless every moment is truly spellbinding. Shortening doesn’t have to mean dumbing down. It means realizing that audiences are time-strapped multi-taskers used to concentrated entertainment.(K.T.)
Intermission without end Unless you have more than 1,000 people eager for drinks and potty breaks, do away with intermissions that last more than 20 minutes. On with the show.(G.R.)
Oh, is that my phone? If it’s your phone that’s going off during a performance, deal with it. You’re not fooling anyone by ignoring it and pretending it’s not you. Now the healing can start.(G.R.)
Get your edge on There’s always a temptation to retreat to the familiar in times of uncertainty. The edgy shows can seem scary. But, theater leaders and theatergoers, now is the time for courage and openness, for taking artistic risks. Please stop playing it safe. (R.P.)

Peter Andre walks out of TV interview after being grilled over his children

February 3rd, 2010 by marysimons

Source: Scottish Daily Record (Original Article)

Feb 4 2010

By Rick Fulton

PETER ANDRE broke down and cut short a live TV interview yesterday as he was questioned about his kids.

Andre, 36, had spent the day trying to carry on with promoting his new album - despite it being overshadowed by his ex Jordan’s Vegas wedding.

In early interviews, he managed to stick to a guarded reaction to the wedding, which he admitted he had no warning of.

But on Sky News, he looked upset and angry after interviewer Kay Burley brought up the question of cagefighter Alex Reid adopting his and Jordan’s kids.

Burley played him video of ex-footballer Dwight Yorke branding him “disrespectful” for wanting to adopt Harvey - Yorke and Jordan’s son.

After the clip of Yorke, who played no part in profoundly handicapped Harvey’s upbringing, Burley asked Andre how he would react if Reid did something similar.

Andre, who has joint custody of Junior, four, and Princess Tiaamii, two, and sees Harvey regularly, struggled to control himself as he replied.

His voice cracking with emotion, he said: “No one is going to take my kids away from me. I’ll fight to the death for those children. I’ll go to court.”

Fighting to hold back the tears, he then asked for the interview to be cut short.

Earlier, when asked what he thought about Reid, he said: “I just want a good influence around my children. That’s all I care about.”

Jordan and Andre married in 2005 after meeting on the jungle Home Sale reality show I’m a Celebrity. They split in May .

We’re all Shah Rukh

February 2nd, 2010 by marysimons

Source: Hindustan Times (Original Article)

On June 26, 1963, US President John F Kennedy, showing solidarity with beleaguered West Berliners, famously said (in a grammatically incorrect statement): “Ich bin ein Berliner.” I am a Berliner.

After 9/11, the French paper Le Monde declared: “We are all Americans.”

On Monday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said: “Count me as a Bihari.”

The wise often argue that silence speaks the loudest.

Not always. Not now. Not in India.

There is a reason the world’s best car companies install powerful horns in the automobiles they sell here. Indians need to say it out loud. Injustice triumphs when the powerful are silent, when standing strong only needs a voice.

So, in a city where business tsars and Bollywood stars are infamous for grovelling whenever a politician frowns, it was a relief to first hear Mukesh Ambani and later Shah Rukh Khan stick it to parochial politics and the Shiv Sena, incongruously named after Shivaji the Great.

“You can only say what you believe in and stand by it, and hopefully I will have the strength to do so,” Khan said in New York about the Sena’s threat to ban his latest movie, My Name is Khan, and to prevent his return to Mumbai. “As an Indian I’m not ashamed, guilty or unhappy about what I said, neither am I sorry.”

Used to the sounds of silence, Bal Thackeray’s faltering Sainiks — desperate now for any kind of publicity — manufactured an issue: SRK’s opinion that keeping Pakistanis out of the Indian Premier League was a mistake.

There isn’t a better time to call the Sena’s bluff.

Every party, finally, appears to be finding its voice against the politics of hate and exclusion — except, ironically, the Maharashtra Congress, which has instead dangerously dabbled with the outsiders-out game, as its now-torpedoed January move of giving taxi permits only to Marathi speakers suggests.

Why won’t Congressmen degrassi the next generation dvd say, ‘We are all Shah Rukh today’? …continue reading
